Formats We Publish

We publish contributions across a range of formats to inspire bold thinking, rigorous debate, and practical solutions for shaping a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable AI future for all.

1.1 Text-Based Formats

We welcome unsolicited contributions and contributions by special invitation in the following text-based formats:

Commentaries

Original, unpublished analytical contributions offering reflections on emerging trends, actionable policy prescriptions, or fresh ways of framing important questions.

Counterpoints

Critical responses to contributions published on the Exchange, grounded in rigorous analysis and presented respectfully.

Guidelines for Contributors

  • Commentaries and Counterpoints should ideally range between 800 and 1,500 words, although exceptions may be made at the discretion of the AI Policy Exchange Editorial Board.
  • All factual claims, data, quotations, and other assertions requiring attribution must be appropriately referenced. References to online sources should be hyperlinked within the body of the contribution, while references to offline sources should be provided as endnotes.
  • Contributions may be authored individually or collaboratively. We place no limit on the number of co-authors.
  • AI Policy Exchange serves a broad and diverse readership. Contributors are encouraged to write in clear, accessible language and avoid unnecessary jargon wherever possible.
  • While contributors may draw upon their own work and experience, contributions should not serve primarily as vehicles for self-promotion.
  • Please indicate in your contribution email whether your contribution is a Commentary or a Counterpoint. If submitting a Counterpoint, please include a link to the published contribution on AI Policy Exchange to which you are responding.
  • You are requested to include a brief biography (up to 150 words) and a high-resolution headshot with your contribution. If your contribution is accepted for publication, we will use it to introduce you to our readers when your contribution goes live on the Exchange.

1.2 Multimedia Formats

We welcome contributions under multimedia formats from members of the AI Policy Exchange Affiliate Community or by special invitation:

Lightning Talks

5–10-minute presentations centred around one key idea, recommendation, insight, or question. At present, this format is reserved for members of the AI Policy Exchange Affiliate Community.

Connecting Dots

45–60-minute dialogues between stakeholders on specific issues. These dialogues are initiated and conducted exclusively by members of the AI Policy Exchange Affiliate Community, with support from the AI Policy Exchange Editorial Board.

Unboxing Research

10–15-minute presentations distilling key findings from the expanding corpus of technical and policy research on AI—published as research papers, policy briefs, white papers, research reports, etc.—and explaining their implications for AI policy and practice. At present, contributions under this format are accepted by special invitation only.

Additional formats may be introduced as the Exchange evolves.

Our Review Process

Every contribution is acknowledged upon receipt and undergoes a rigorous review process before the AI Policy Exchange Editorial Board reaches a publication decision.

Guiding Principle

Throughout the review process, we are guided by a simple principle: ideas should be judged on the strength of their evidence and reasoning—not on the authority, seniority, institutional affiliation, or prominence of those advancing them. While no review process is perfect, we strive to ensure that every contribution is evaluated fairly, consistently, and on its own merits. The Exchange reserves the right to accept or reject any contribution at any stage of the review process.

01

Preliminary Screening

The review process begins with a preliminary screening to assess the contribution’s relevance to the Exchange, originality of analysis, and compliance with our editorial standards, including plagiarism checks and other appropriate integrity assessments. Contributors are informed of the outcome of the preliminary screening within 5 working days of submitting their contribution.

02

Technical Review

A contribution that successfully passes the preliminary screening proceeds to technical review by one or more members of the AI Policy Exchange Affiliate Community and, where appropriate, external subject-matter experts. The reviewer assesses contributions for accuracy, analytical quality and structure, accessibility, attribution, and policy significance.

Throughout the technical review process, reviewer and contributor identities remain confidential. The Editorial Board then communicates the reviewer’s feedback to the contributor. If revisions are required, the contributor is invited to submit a revised contribution together with brief explanations for any reviewer suggestions they have chosen not to incorporate. The Editorial Board reviews the revised contribution and, where necessary, may request further revisions or additional technical review.

03

Publication

Once the Editorial Board, in consultation with the concerned reviewer, is satisfied that the contribution meets the AI Policy Exchange’s editorial standards, it is accepted for publication and the contributor is notified. Accepted contributions may be copy-edited prior to publication to improve clarity, grammar, style, formatting, and consistency.
